Planning and execution

**Initial part of this post is basically a note to myself**

I finally feel relieved today. To be very honest, I have been not feeling myself lately, I stay mad at myself all the time, and always feeling overburdened with work. You know why?The problem has been this,

Big load on my shoulders aka thesis writing->no clue where to start-> hence no start-> hence the load keeps piling up-> hence tension builds up-> hence dissatisfaction-> then comes a phase where you don’t care about the world-> additional dissatisfaction leading to a stage of funk.

I’ll be graduating in the summer but I want to finish all my work by the end of April, at least that is the plan. When you are confused/in a state of funk, you return to the basics right. In this case I decided to go back to the basics well illustrated in Sarah’s guest post.

Based on the rules,

ºWrite it down: My checklist is ready with a total project breakdown, weekly breakdown and daily task breakdown.

ºDo it now: the realization had set in and procrastination will be a killer in this situation.

I am targeting my writing based on pages and that way the task will seem less daunting. If I try and break the big task in small chunks any other way, it seems scary! By going the page way, I feel I can get more done.

**

Breakfast: Yep I am doing well here, eating my breakfast everyday. Today I enjoyed an everything bagel with laughing cow garlic and herb cheese.

Dinner: we had a party last night at my friends. Today I just ate some of the leftovers + a nice salad to go along.

Q. Do you leave things for the very last minute or do you work and plan in advance?

Q. Best thing you ate this weekend? The best thing I ate was a lovely potato curry that one of my friend brought to the potluck party.

Have a great monday folks.

  1. I know what you mean in the first part of this post, more than you know. Really big hug and congratulations for working hard to get on top of it all!

  2. I try not to procrastinate but I’m not always successful, and I’m proud of myself for at least getting my flashcards together today a week in advance for my test instead of waiting till the night before! 🙂

  3. I’ve never written a thesis before, but many of my buds have and they often speak of the building piles of stuff to do. I suggest a good walk in the fresh air each day, and lots of water. 🙂 Proud of you sweetness, Ill be sure to celebrate here down under your graduation.
And, Im so a planner, borderline OCD with my planning, and the best thing I ate this weekend was a pasta pie Mr HG made for me. It was amazing.

  4. Good luck getting all that work done!! : ) Sounds like you’re off to a great start getting it all organized so you know what needs to be done. You can do it!! I’ll all be worth it, and think of how great you’ll feel when it’s all accomplished ; )

  5. girl, seriously, the first part of your post seemed like it was written about me! arg, i’m in a similar situation, but on a smaller scale. i have to write my research proposal to defend to my committee on march 28. but i have to send the written proposal to them by next monday! ahh. i literally did not write a single word until today. not good. but i worked for pretty much 4 hours straight this morning and got a HUGE chunk done! now i feel way better too! 🙂

hooray for finally biting the bullet and getting some work done!

  6. Looks like you are neck deep in work load! I love all the food you have here though 🙂 P.S. I am a planner by the way! 😛

  7. That’s a hard one. Either the Tuscan Fries we made on Saturday night before going out, or the sushi we had on Sunday at the Sushi Buffet. I’m okay with that being a toss-up.

  8. I’m a procrastinator by nature, so I usually leave things until the last minute, but I am always so glad when I get things done ahead of time!

  9. I’m in the same boat as you regarding thesis work…but my graduation date is farther away than yours.
Your list looks great though- it’s definitely a good start 🙂 I’m a total procrastinator and unfortunately, nothing of consequence has ever come from it. I saw unfortunately because I really do WISH something bad would happen as a result of my putting things off- then maybe I’d stop doing it! But, it seems like I’ll never learn…

  10. your list looks great! i am so happy to have inspired it. i hope it makes things easier – you will have to provide an update 🙂

  11. Keep on truckin – you’ve got a good start! I’m a HUGE fan of breaking down big “to-dos” into monthly/weekly/and daily tasks as needed. It helps me to keep the big ideas in mind, but breaks it down into more manageable chunks!

  12. I am a procrastinator all the way, but it always stresses me out so I don’t know why I wait so long. I think breaking a big task into smaller chunks is an awesome idea. I know you can write this thesis Priyanka. Good luck!
