Swiss chard dinner and time audit

Good evening!

One of my farmers market item was Swiss Chard. Tonight for dinner I made the simplest pasta dish ever, swiss chard with navy beans over brown rice angel hair.

I cut the stems off the leaves,

and then chopped the stems, sauted in a bit of olive oil with chopped green onions and garlic and spiked with red pepper flakes.

When the stems were slightly cooked, i added the leaves and let them wilt for a while,

Finally added the navy beans and served it over some brown rice angel hair.

Topped with some more red pepper flakes and nutritional yeast this was one simple and clean dish for a busy weekday dinner.

I loved the fact that unlike spinach, chard maintains some crunch even when cooked.

Summer virtual retreat project:

This week’s project in totality focuses on the importance of time and productivity. I can spend hours reading tips on time management and productivity. The weeklong project is to audit your time  which will help you in knowing the most productive periods of your day, time you spend relaxing or watching TV, amount of time you spend on blog related activities etc. I am monitoring each and every hour right on an excel sheet and hope this helps me in being more targeted with my time. I know I can ponder (read waste) too much time on one thing.

Workout: A 2 mile run outside, non stop at 13:20 pace. Loved it, although, after the run I thought my face was going to explode,I was so red 🙂

Do you subscribe for magazines, if so which ones?

Do you buy books or pick them up from the library?

  1. I love swiss chard with pasta! This looks delicious! 🙂

  2. I love magazines but they can get pricey. I subscribe to Zest (a UK health magazine) and Runners’ World as both work out so much cheaper when bought via subscriptions!

  3. I’ve never tried chard, but would love something that’s like spinach and crunchy! Were the prices at the Farmer’s Market pretty good? I’ve never looked at the produce there.

I subscribe to Self, Shape and Bust magazines. It’s cheaper than buying each one individually and I love looking forward to getting them in the mail.

  4. Oooh, interesting! I saw chard at my farmers market and thought it looked so pretty but have never cooked with it before. This recipe looks easy and delicious, though!

  5. I’m going to the supermarket in a bit and I’m determined to find out what swiss chard is 🙂

I read lots and lots of magazines and I keep meaning to stop reading that many but it doesn’t work. Maybe I should consider subscribing because I spend a small fortune on them at the moment. I read runner’s world, zest, Psychologists, Vogue, Intelligent life, In Style, Elle Decoration and sometimes Hello.

  6. I know exactly where I waste all of my time…on the Internet! But it’s an addiction that I can’t stop. Instead I’ve dropped TV. Never thought that would happen!

I don’t buy books anymore because I have no more space to put them. Plus, I think it’s kind of wasteful. So I get them from the library now which is great. Aside from the germ thing of course…

    I love swiss chard!

  7. So simple and so gorgeous! I love the colors in this dish.

I’m not much of a book person, but I subscribe to Vogue, Seventeen, and Vegetarian Times!

  8. I love dishes like this! So tasty!

  9. I never tried swiss chard. I have to add this to the list of veggies I want to try.

All the best with the time logging.

I usually don’t read many magzines. I read a lot of awsome blogs like yours in the time I have.

The only magzine I subscribe to is Experience Life and it’s really good. no loosing 10 lbs in 10 days non-sense. I like Real Simple too which I buy once in a while.

  10. I had swiss chard for the first time a few months ago and loved it.

I subscribe to Real Simple, Cooking Light and Runner’s World.

  11. I subscribe to way too many magazines – women’s health, runner’s world, self, fitness…the list goes on.

  12. Just came across your blog for the first time and love it, very inspirational!!! All these delicious and nutritious food pics are making me want to break out the pots and pans!

  13. mmm great dinner! I don’t think I’ve ever made anything with swiss chard- I love all green leafy vegetables though- so I’m sure I’d love it! I used to subscribe to a few magazines, but I’ve let them all run out! I need to re-subscribe to Southern Living! Love that magazine 🙂
